Facebook tops the list of Most Visited Websites in 2010

    A very happy new to all my beloved readers. Its been a good year 2010 for my blog just coz I registered my own domain name for the blog the4thdimension.net
    While having my morning coffee, somewhere on the internet, I just read that Facebook is the highly visited website of the year 2010. I already have discussed the way Facebook took down orkut .

    Having your profile on a social networking website is great. I have also noticed that some start-ups and organizations have realized the power of social networking. They are now planning to release their own small social networks for their customers rather than having discussion forums to discuss reviews of their products, connect with each other etc. This also makes me wonder if Web 3.0 will come up with companies having their own individual social networks. The discussion forums will have gone soon.

   The Social Networking Giant Facebook has topped the list of the highly searched items. It has rendered Google on rank no. 2 in the list of the highly searched items on the internet as reported by Hitwise.com.

           So I wonder that after Facebook took over Orkut and other famous websites and Social Networks in almost all the countries, is it now the turn of Google, the www Goliath, to be superseded

തിരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പ് കമ്മീഷന്റെ ഉത്തരവ് റദ്ദാക്കി

കൊച്ചി: രണ്ട് രൂപയ്ക്ക് അരി ദാരിദ്ര്യരേഖയ്ക്ക് മുകളിലുള്ള കൂടുതല്‍ പേര്‍ക്ക് നല്‍കാനുള്ള സര്‍ക്കാരിന്റെ നടപടി തുടരാമെന്ന് ഹൈക്കോടതി വ്യക്തമാക്കി. പ്രസ്തുത പദ്ധതി തിരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പ് കഴിയുന്നതുവരെ മരവിപ്പിച്ച തിരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പ് കമ്മീഷന്റെ ഉത്തരവ് റദ്ദാക്കിക്കൊണ്ടാണ് ചീഫ് ജസ്റ്റിസ് ജെ. ചെലമേശ്വര്‍, ജസ്റ്റിസ് പി. ആര്‍. രാമചന്ദ്ര മേനോന്‍ എന്നിവരുള്‍പ്പെട്ട ഡിവിഷന്‍ ബെഞ്ചിന്റെ ഈ ഉത്തരവ്. തിരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പ് കമ്മീഷന്റെ ഉത്തരവിനെതിരെ ഒല്ലൂര്‍ എം.എല്‍.എ. രാജാജി മാത്യു തോമസ് നല്‍കിയ ഹര്‍ജി കോടതി അനുവദിച്ചു.

രണ്ട് രൂപയ്ക്ക് അരി നല്‍കുന്ന നിലവിലുള്ള പദ്ധതി വ്യവസ്ഥകള്‍ക്ക് വിധേയമായി കൂടുതല്‍ ജനവിഭാഗങ്ങള്‍ക്ക് വ്യാപകമാക്കുന്നത് രാഷ്ട്രീയ പ്രചാരണത്തിനുള്ള ആയുധമാക്കുന്നതായി കരുതാനാവില്ലെന്ന് കോടതി വിലയിരുത്തി. പദ്ധതി മരവിപ്പിച്ച തിരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പ് കമ്മീഷന്റെ നടപടി ഏകപക്ഷീയമാണ്. എല്ലാ രാഷ്ട്രീയ കക്ഷികളും ഒരേ തട്ടില്‍ നിന്നുകൊണ്ടാണ് മത്സരിക്കുന്നതെന്ന് ഉറപ്പാക്കുക എന്ന ലക്ഷ്യവുമായി കമ്മീഷന്റെ ഉത്തരവിനെ കാണാനാവില്ല. കമ്മീഷന്റെ നടപടി സംസ്ഥാന സര്‍ക്കാരിന്റെ ഭരണഘടനാപരമായ അധികാര പരിധിയിലുള്ള കടന്നുകയറ്റമാണ് എന്നും കോടതി വിലയിരുത്തി.

സര്‍ക്കാരിന്റെ ഔദ്യോഗിക ചുമതലാ നിര്‍വഹണത്തെ രാഷ്ട്രീയ പ്രചാരണത്തിനുള്ള ആയുധമാക്കുന്ന സാഹചര്യം ഇവിടെയില്ല എന്നും കോടതി ചൂണ്ടിക്കാട്ടി. ആന്ധ്രാപ്രദേശില്‍ ആരോഗ്യശ്രീ പദ്ധതി നടപ്പാക്കുന്നത് തിരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പ് കമ്മീഷന്‍ 2009ല്‍ തടഞ്ഞിരുന്നു. അന്ന് പ്രസ്തുത പദ്ധതിക്ക് ഗുണഭോക്താക്കളെ കണ്ടെത്തുന്നതിനെ കമ്മീഷന്‍ എതിര്‍ത്തിരുന്നില്ല. മുഖ്യമന്ത്രിയുടെയും മുന്‍ പ്രധാനമന്ത്രിയുടെയും ചിത്രത്തോടെ പദ്ധതിയുടെ കാര്‍ഡ് നല്‍കുന്നതാണ് കമ്മീഷന്‍ തടഞ്ഞത്. കമ്മീഷന്റെ ഈ നടപടി അന്ന് കോടതി ശരിവയ്ക്കുകയും ചെയ്തിരുന്നു. എന്നാല്‍ അതിന് സമാനമായ സാഹചര്യമല്ല ഇവിടെയുള്ളത് എന്ന് ഡിവിഷന്‍ ബെഞ്ച് ചൂണ്ടിക്കാട്ടി.

തിരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പ് വിജ്ഞാപനത്തിന് മുന്‍പെടുത്ത നയതീരുമാനം നടപ്പാക്കാനുള്ള നടപടി വിജ്ഞാപനത്തിനു ശേഷം തുടരുന്നതില്‍ തെറ്റില്ല എന്നാണ് മുന്‍ കോടതി ഉത്തരവുകള്‍ വ്യക്തമാക്കുന്നതെന്നും കോടതി വിലയിരുത്തി.

പദ്ധതി നടത്തിപ്പ് തടഞ്ഞ കമ്മീഷന്റെ നടപടി അധികാരമില്ലാതെയാണ് എന്നാണ് ഹര്‍ജിക്കാരന്‍ ചൂണ്ടിക്കാട്ടിയത്. നിലവിലുള്ള പദ്ധതിയുടെ തുടര്‍ച്ചയാണിതെന്ന് സര്‍ക്കാരിനു വേണ്ടി അഡീഷണല്‍ അഡ്വക്കേറ്റ് ജനറല്‍ രഞ്ജിത് തമ്പാന്‍ വാദിച്ചു.

25,000 രൂപയില്‍ കുറഞ്ഞ മാസ വരുമാനം, 2.5 ഏക്കറില്‍ താഴെ ഭുമി, 2,500 ചതുരശ്ര അടിയില്‍ താഴെ വിസ്തീര്‍ണമുള്ള വീട് എന്നീ വ്യവസ്ഥകളാണ് റേഷന്‍കാര്‍ഡുടമകള്‍ക്ക് പ്രതിമാസം രണ്ട് രൂപയ്ക്ക് 25 കിലോ അരി നല്‍കാന്‍ സര്‍ക്കാര്‍ വച്ചിട്ടുള്ള വ്യവസ്ഥകള്‍. ഇക്കാര്യം കാര്‍ഡുടമകള്‍ സ്വയം സാക്ഷ്യപ്പെടുത്തി നല്‍കിയാന്‍ മതി.

Google accuses Chinese Govt of blocking its Gmail service

Beijing, Mar 21, (PTI):

Search giant Google today accused the Chinese Government of blocking its Gmail service in the country, after month-long online disruption that coincided with an Internet campaign calling for protests like those in the Arab nations.

Google started getting complaints about interruptions in access to Gmail service ever since the "Jasmine" uprisings in Tunisia and Egypt last month, which subsequently spread to several other Gulf countries. While China blocked all information relating to these protests in Chinese language Internet services, used by over 457 million people, Google and Gmail services experienced periodic disruptions after overseas Chinese dissident groups started calling for similar protests in Chinese cities, which were put down with iron hand by Chinese police. The American search engine, which patched up with Chinese government after a prolonged wrangle last year over periodic interference of its content with intrusive censors, said in a statement today that investigations carried out by it to look into recent disruptions found that there was no technical problem. "There is no issue on our side; we have checked extensively," Google said in the statement. "This is a government blockage, carefully designed to look like the problem is with Gmail," it said. Beijing based foreign correspondents also received stern warnings from the police not break rules while attempting to cover any such protests. Subsequently, China for the first time started blocking Virtual Private Net (VPN) services which provided direct Internet services to overcome Chinese Internet firewalls. Gmail has become difficult to access even through the VPNs. Google, which had 35 per cent of Chinese market before it shifted to Hong Kong following spat with the government, managed to return to Chinese market this year after obtaining a new license accepting stringent censorship rules governing the Internet in China. Google's return was largely attributed to the lure of the burgeoning Chinese Internet market which has emerged world's largest with over 457 million connections. The Chinese government appeared worried about the speed with which Internet has spread in the country and emerged as a threat to the tightly controlled official media. According to recent reports China has over 100 million microbloggers who managed to establish networks of their own despite ban on social network websites like Twitter and Facebook. Most of the Chinese bloggers are hooked on to Chinese messaging networks like Tencent QQ, generally referred to as QQ has millions of accounts. The ruling Communist Party of China, (CPC) is apprehensive that the fast spreading Internet and microblogging networks could be used by dissidents to challenge its hold on power.

Election Commission to webcast Kerala Assembly Elections live

Tvm: The Election Commission has decided to webcast the voting for the Kerala Legislative Assembly to be held on April 13, 2011. The live streaming from the sensitive polling stations across Kerala would help in the online and remote monitoring of voting. This was announced by the Chief Election Commissioner of India, Dr. S Y Quraishi today while briefing the media in Thiruvananthapuram.

Dr. S Y Quraishi said, “This idea was first implemented by a young IAS Officer in a remote polling station in Manipur during the last elections and it was found to be very effective. Since the webcast is available on the Internet, anyone can view the polling process. This is yet another initiative of the Election Commission to improve the transparency in the electoral process and also to provide a level playing field for free and fair elections”. The poll monitoring will be done at the District, State and National levels.

Such large scale webcasting is being introduced for first time in this election to be held in five states. In Kerala, State owned Enterprise, Keltron has been assigned the task of webcasting from the polling stations.

The sensitive polling booths will be identified only a couple of days ahead of the elections after analysing the law and order situations at each locality as well as various other factors. The Election Commission has an 11 point check list to determine sensitive booths. The webcasting facilities will be installed once the sensitive booths are identified.

There are 20,758 polling stations in Kerala. There are 2,29,47,469 crore voters in Kerala with women outnumbering the men by about 10 lakhs.

The Election Commission has also launched an integrated call centre with nationwide toll free number 1965 to address poll related issues. Election Commissioners V S Sampath and H S Brahma, and State Chief Electoral Officer Nalini Netto were present on the occasion.
